This accumulator-sense pump unload valve is a hydraulic valve used to unload a pump and direct flow to a tank once a specific system pressure is reached. It features a pilot-operated design where the opening of a smaller, pilot-stage valve exhausts oil above the main-stage piston (spool), which then causes the main valve to shift and unload the system. Flow from Port 1 to Port 2 is blocked until the remote pilot pressure at Port 3 exceeds the pressure setting, when the secondary piston lifts the pilot-stage poppet to allow flow from Port 1 to Port 2. When the pilot pressure at Port 3 (from the accumulator) drops to a certain ratio of the valve's pressure setting, flow from Port 1 to Port 2 will be blocked. The pump then delivers oil to the accumulator until the system pressure reaches the upper setting. This action is repeated automatically.

  • The accumulator-sense pump unload valve is commonly used to unload a high-volume pump in an accumulator circuit to avoid continuous operation at full flow; or is used in systems with two pumps, where one pump can be unloaded once a certain pressure is reached.
  • Backpressure at port 4 (tank) is added directly to the valve setting in a 1:1 ratio.
