This is a direct-acting, spool type, 4-way 3-position solenoid valve. When both coils are de-energized, port 1, port 2 and port 4 are open to each other while port 3 is blocked. When S1 is energized, it allows flow from port 2 to port 1 and from port 3 to port 4. When S2 is energized, it allows flow from port 3 to port 2 and from port 4 to port 1. During transition, all ports are temporarily interconnected with restricted (orifice) flow.

The performance curves of ES-31A-4C-24-Z-04  show pressure drop as flow increases. The operating limit curves indicate that for flow between Ports 3 to 2, Ports 3 to 4, Ports 4 to 1 and Ports 2 to 1, operating pressure corresponding to flow direction
